Badminton Racket Customization For Control and Feel

We provide an assortment of badminton rackets suitable for players of all skill levels. Each badminton racket can be tailored specifically to each player’s requirements.

Add weight to the head to increase overall mass without altering balance point, such as by installing two 20 cm strips of tungsten tape centered at 12 o’clock position – adding this weight will add 2.8 grams and 7 swingweight points.

Handle

The handle of a badminton racket is where you grip it for proper handling. A high quality racket’s grip tape offers a non-slip surface for your hands while helping prevent blisters or any other damages to them.

Use of the correct grip is critical to controlling and improving your racket play, as it will allow for greater power and consistency when hitting. There are various methods you can use to customize your grip – one of them being adding weight to the handle; usually this will provide greater control and feel when striking a shuttlecock.

Addition of a leather grip can add weight to the handle easily and can usually weigh 10 grams more than its synthetic or stock counterpart. It’s simple and can often be completed during racket customization services.

Some of these grips may cost even more than replacing synthetic ones, but they will provide a more comfortable playing experience while adding up to 20 grams of head-light balance to the racket. Furthermore, this customization is easily reversed should it not meet your preferences.

Counter-balancing a racket can provide another effective method to increase head-light balance without compromising maneuverability. Simply remove its butt cap and pack some tungsten putty inside; this will add 5.6 grams to its head-light balance without impeding on maneuverability.

Some rackets cannot be altered this way due to their unique designs that prevent accessing the area of the handle where the butt cap resides. If this is the case for you, try using a heat shrink sleeve; these sleeves will increase grip size by one size while adding 17 grams of head-light balance.

Badminton players who prefer lighter frames and head light balance tend to be more controlled players, employing techniques such as clears, net shots and deceptions in order to win games. Conversely, heavy frames and heads can give power players extra strength but may make maneuvering difficult as it requires additional force to win matches.

String Pattern

String patterns on racquets are key components to creating the desired feel and performance. Opener string patterns tend to provide more spin while denser ones provide more control, with each pattern also impacting shuttlecock trajectory; open patterns tend to produce higher launch angles while more open ones often lead to string breaks because strings move more freely around.

Manufacturers have recently experimented with “spin-crazed” string patterns where crosses outnumber mains; these rackets tend to feature higher spin but typically feature lower sweet spots than rackets with more balanced string patterns.

Players who prioritize feel over power typically opt for string patterns with closer-to-balanced tension levels, enabling a good equilibrium between power and control. A popular example is 16×19 string pattern which offers plenty of spin while still offering adequate plow through on off center hits.

Players looking to maximize repulsion should consider choosing rackets with denser string patterns, which tend to be less powerful yet still enable more directional control and depth of shot. Professional players like Tommy Paul have found success using Wilson Blade 98 (16×19) rackets with dense string patterns as they offer greater depth of shot and more direction control than less powerful options such as Yonex VCORE 98 (17×19). Both rackets boast open sweet spots.

Personalizing your racket is the final step of customization and gives you an opportunity to show your individuality on court. Just make sure that before clicking “Review and Buy,” all options have been checked, as custom rackets are non-returnable/non-refundable.

String Weight

String weight can make an immense difference to how a racket feels and performs, particularly its performance on court. A higher string tension offers more power but less control; loose strings may feel like trampolines as balls rebound back towards them; tighter strings offer greater precision but won’t offer as much power output.

Weighting the stringbed with lead tape or tail-weighting rackets with access to their butt cap through trap doors are two methods for increasing string tension easily and rapidly. Fill your trap with small amount of tungsten putty, then reseal and press shut the butt cap. Another method to add weight is packing cotton balls into its handle for additional weight. Modifying racket frames may be challenging but is achievable on most frames with the exception of those already equipped with head-lights. Doing this increases stability while helping reduce frame twisting on off-center hits. Weighting the inner hoop, specifically at 10 and 2 o’clock positions, is also an option. While adding this weight won’t add much to overall racket weight, it may make for more headlight racket play and decrease swingweight by 7-8 points.

An important consideration in selecting the appropriate string gauge is durability; thicker gauge strings may lead to arm issues over time, while thinner string options will offer increased endurance but could limit power potential of the racket.

Frame

Badminton frames come in different sizes to fit different players and racket styles, impacting balance or weight distribution within the racket’s body. There are three general badminton frame shapes: Head Heavy, Head Light and Even-Balanced.

Head-heavy rackets give players the ability to generate plenty of power in their smashes, but can feel cumbersome when reacting to defensive shots. In comparison, light rackets offer more versatility in terms of their capabilities – they deliver plenty of force during fast drive exchanges yet remain fast enough to allow players to execute powerful half-smashes effortlessly with just a flick of the wrist.

Experienced badminton players typically opt for stiffer shafts than beginners, as advanced players tend to have faster swing speeds that benefit from extra power provided by stiffer shafts.

Changing shaft flex can be accomplished easily; however, stiffening changes are far more complex. Therefore, most stores only customize racquets with identical frame stiffnesses.

Head shapes should also be carefully considered when purchasing a badminton racket. Oval heads have traditionally been preferred by professionals as they provide greater power for smashes; on the other hand, isometric frames allow for a larger sweet spot and greater control of shuttle placement.

Although many stores may only carry a selection of badminton racquets with different frame stiffnesses, players can request customized ones from local shops. For instance, extra weight can be added by applying four 5-centimeter strips from TW customization tape on the inner hoop of their racket at 10 and 2, increasing its total mass by 2.8 grams – equivalent to one full balance point less headlight and an 8-point jump in swingweight respectively – providing players an effective way to improve performance while still keeping original characteristics intact!
