Serving Challenge Drill
Consistent service is of utmost importance in badminton. This serves as the starting point of every rally, so players need to be ready and responsive when receiving serves quickly and accurately. The Serving Challenge Drill provides an engaging yet challenging training tool which helps improve server accuracy as well as consistency.
This drill involves having players line up and have a partner serve to them from different zones of the court, then have one player act as receiver by hitting shuttles back within an allotted amount of time (e.g. 2 seconds) before hitting them to their assigned zone within that same amount of time (e.g. 2 seconds). Their team then gets points based on how many passes they win within this specified amount of time and can even turn it into a team vs team game to increase intensity!
As well as helping improve accuracy, this badminton consistency drill is also an excellent way to prepare for the transition phase of a game. At this time, your opponent may attempt to transition from defense to offense by attacking with long back drops and drives; now is the ideal opportunity to practice your quick lifts, pushes and net kills as well as footwork and speed in defense!
Another variation on this drill involves having players serve to multiple targets instead of zones and work on hitting each of them within a set amount of time – this will prepare them for situations in which they must hit shuttles accurately from all corners of the court quickly and consistently.
