USTA Junior Programs offer young tennis players opportunities for competitive experiences that develop skills such as tennis strategy, match play and opponent analysis. Furthermore, this environment promotes good sportsmanship and teamwork – qualities which young players need as they make their way along their tennis pathway.
The Junior Development Program (JDP) is an ongoing group training program for juniors aged 10 or older. JDP meets three times each week and offers drill, instruction, and match play with coaching; ideal for players looking forward to competing at college level or becoming professional players. Available at various USTA facilities across the nation.
Youth Tennis Championships (STC) are an essential component of USTA Player Development initiative, providing a level of competition for those unable to take part in section tournaments due to age or other reasons. Held across the country and managed by USTA staff with local organizers for maximum enjoyment for participants.
Utilizing USTA approved red ball equipment, players will learn the fundamentals of tennis with an emphasis on hand eye coordination, footwork patterns and basic skill and strategy development in an enjoyable, encouraging and supportive atmosphere. Classes are held in groups and each enrollee receives a complimentary junior racquet upon registration.
Intermediate Level: This division is ideal for players looking to add team competition into their singles tournament schedule, providing a fun alternative. At this level, players should have experience with L6/L7 USTA tournaments played and should practice once or twice weekly; additionally this division can serve as an excellent stepping-stone toward high school varsity team tennis.

JTT leagues and regional tournaments provide competition; league winners advance to USTA Eastern’s JTT Sectional Championships while those that advance further compete at this level become eligible to represent Eastern Section at National Junior Team Tennis Championships.

Through holistic programs designed to enhance children’s performances on and off the courts while encouraging academic excellence while upholding positive behavior standards. Established in 1972, HJTEP provides underserved students from poor neighborhoods an opportunity to achieve both on and off the court; many former HJTEP athletes have gone on to become leaders in their fields and won tennis scholarships at top colleges.

These grants, totaling $150,000, enable these student-athletes to train year-round while competing against other talented student-athletes at tournaments across the country. Each grant is determined based on each student’s previous successes including ranking and history of competing at high-level tournaments.
HJTEP’s Health Related Support program is also an integral component, offering healthy after-school snacks, hosting nutritionist seminars and educating participants about exercise, diet and healthy lifestyle choices. Furthermore, their Tennis Against Obesity (TAO) program encourages minority, low-income youth to develop an interest and passion in self-managing their wellbeing for life.
