No matter your tennis goals – from following matches as a spectator or honing your own game on the court – these apps offer everything needed for both.
Coaches everywhere will want to download The Coach’s Eye app as it makes reviewing and analyzing game films much simpler.
Tennis Clash is an intuitive tennis game with some similarities to Pong. Available for free download with some in-app purchases available, the game has earned outstanding reviews from users.
SwingVision Tennis
Mangolytics Inc, created by a Tesla engineer and supported by former professional tennis players Andy Roddick and James Blake, offers SwingVision: an iPhone/iPad app using artificial intelligence (AI) to turn video captured from both phones or Apple Watch into stats, highlights, officiating statistics and more. Mangolytics says their solution has already become the official shot-tracking app of several U.S. college tennis teams as well as Australia and UK national governing bodies for tennis.
The app uses smartphone cameras and the accelerometer and gyroscope in Apple Watches to detect shots in real-time and track them, as well as edit out dead time between points to create an accessible point-play video complete with heat maps and charts that reveal nearly every important metric from shot placement to court positioning.
One of the most striking elements is the app’s ability to replay point-by-point videos, with stroke analysis showing which part of your racket the ball hit with each swing from both players, along with filters for replaying only long and tiring rallies or creating highlight reels or delving deeper into your game with graphs and charts covering everything from break point conversion to shot type.
Key features of the app are its ability to monitor progress and help prevent regression. A trend graph for each stroke displays your general performance over time and can help identify whether you are improving or falling back into old habits – an especially helpful feature for young players who may regress if they do not put together enough quality practice or match sessions.
SwingVision provides free users with two hours of recording/analysis each month; its pro versions provide unlimited recording/analysis for reasonable subscription rates. Aspiring amateurs, professional players and even tennis governing bodies should all find this tool indispensable.
Hudl Technique
Hudl Technique is an invaluable tool for coaches and athletes looking to analyze their own game. Users can compare their performances against those of more advanced performers and receive feedback on any areas where improvement needs to take place. Versatile in use across numerous sports and activities, Hudl has earned rave reviews from athletes as well as coaches alike across a range of fields.
This software can be applied to any sport that uses slow motion video analysis, including baseball. It can help identify subtle flaws in an athlete’s form and aid them in developing more consistent swings; additionally, it can compare player swings against those of professional players to identify areas that require work.
Unique in the market, this app stands out with features that set it apart. For instance, its comparison feature allows you to easily compare two videos side by side so it is easy to identify differences in performance and identify areas for improvement in your own game. Furthermore, its sliding frame advance feature enables you to study every move closely in detail to spot areas for development and find areas where improvement needs to occur. Best of all, download is free with an intuitive interface for recording and reviewing footage of yourself or others.
The app also provides drawing tools that can help provide instantaneous feedback or permanent reviews of performance. Although some tools may prove more helpful than others, these quick solutions can provide instant insights into your progress and development.
Another great advantage of this app is that it supports various file formats, so you can use it on both a computer and laptop. Plus, its built-in video editor makes video editing simple!
Hudl Technique was recently acquired by Gear Fisher and Krishna Ramachandran, the original developers of UberSense. Under their new company name OnForm, Gear and Krishna plan on continuing to invest in tools designed to increase player skills and performance. Their app will replace Hudl Technique; existing customers of Hudl Technique can migrate their videos over using an easy migration tool.
TennisPAL
TennisPAL is a mobile app designed to bring together tennis players across various geographical, age and skill level parameters. Additionally, this platform provides coaching opportunities as well as free ‘pro tips’ section. Tennis coaches can use chat messaging or video calling with their students while TennisPAL acts as a central repository where coaches can send/receive videos for analysis.
This app was designed to address two key unmet needs in the tennis community: access and communication. Members use Find Pal to search for other players within a certain radius, then chat via messaging or “Moments”, an Instagram-esque newsfeed feature of the app. When they have found their match they can schedule play time or request lessons from a nearby coach.
Created by an experienced tennis player and coach, this free app helps users improve their game by tracking match details such as winners, unforced errors and more. Syncing seamlessly with Apple Watch provides real-time results while the app also gives users credit toward reaching exercise goals through Apple’s Move and Activity apps.
There are various tennis apps, but the top ones share several common features. These include being able to track shot type and speed; identify swing patterns; compare shots between players; and compare your shots with others’ shots.
Contrasting with Tennis News Now Service (TNNS), this app covers both ATP and WTA tours with rankings, scores and live coverage of major events. Compatible with Apple devices and boasting high customer satisfaction ratings but some users have complained of bugs.
This app provides an excellent experience when keeping score, although it doesn’t offer as many advanced statistics as some of its competitors. Still, many tennis professionals recommend this one and it was recently upgraded with improved features including an updated user interface (UI) as well as supporting multiple accounts so players can share scores between themselves.
